A Study Visit at Hong Bang University International in Vietnam

Souvenir of PSE for Hong Bang

A seven-day trip for a study visit in Vietnam started after voting day was over. It was an obligation for Cambodian people to elect the right political party to govern their territory. According to the memorandum of understanding between Pour Un Sourire d’Enfant, Non-Profit Organization of Cambodia (PSE), and Hong Bang University International (HBU) in Vietnam, the two parties agreed to have an exchange program. Therefore, the third generation and final year students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration of the Business School of PSE Institute had a course on Organizational Control taught by Dr. Nguyen Minh Tuan, a professor of Hong Bang University.

Organizational Control Course
Staying for a week, from the 4th until the 11th of June 2012, we departed from PSE Institute in the early morning and travelled for 6 hours in the Mekong Express Bus, and we also went across three provinces in Cambodia – Kandal, Preyveng, Svayreang, and one province in Vietnam – Tai Ninh. We arrived there in the afternoon around 4:30 pm, and we had seen so many things along the journey. When the bus stopped in front of Hong Bang University, we were all greeted with a warm welcome by the delegate there, named Nguyen Chao Chi, bringing us to the comfortable room in the dormitory of the university.

For the course – organizational control – we learnt, we got a deeper image in our mind about it, and we found it interesting to learn for our five-day course. We, therefore, understood the advantage of having a manageable control system, a paramount part in management functions, which is applied in various business sectors in today’s market; however, to have a better control system, we need to have some practical and observational knowledge to understand what the key variables that can have a greater impact on our business are, and where those key variables are from. Hopefully, being a good manager, we need to balance our control system not to use too much tight control and lose control. The more we can balance, the better the result we can achieve.

However, even if we learnt a lot from this course, there were also some troubles we encountered during studying, too. Because of language, culture, handouts preparation, and noisy environment, we had some difficulties to catch up the lesson; otherwise, we still persisted and paid much attention to the lecture. As mentioned about practical and observational knowledge, we were all brought to visit two places in a special economic zone in Vietnam – Thanh Thanh, a ceramic manufacture, and an official custom department in Dong Nai province, which is situated close to Ho Chi Minh City, about 20 kilometers away.

As a result, we could compare how different it was between the theories we had been taught vis-à-vis the real practical work in the manufacturing chain and the custom department, so that we were able to learn even more with the real situation to reflect to the theories. Before leaving, HBU International had arranged a cultural exchange program for PSE students, and there were so many performances showed by the students coming from several South-East Asia Countries – Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and also Japan – to show their own culture to each other.

Visit at Dam Sen Park in Ho Chi Minh City
Thanks to PSE Institute and Hong Bang University for organizing such a valuable program for the students to improve their know-how and insight of the theories while seeing the real practical knowledge to improve our eyesight of the differences between the two countries. Also, thanks to our first generation of PSE Institute majoring in Tourism in Vietnam who always intervened in our daily life while being there.

Visit to rubber plantation

Report from Miss. Sreyna BBA3-B. She said that, on February 18th 2012, Mr. Lim Rithy, manager of Business School, arranged a visit for BBA2 and BBA3 to Chub rubber plantation in Kompong Cham province. All the students left from PSE at 7:30 am with several teachers of Business school like Mr. Lim Rithy, Mr.Tuy Sopheak, Miss Socheat, Miss Channa and Miss Eléonore.

Sreyna said that she arrived  there at 11:40 am. She saw the factory. It was the first time that she could enjoy this visit and she was very surprised that there were a lot of different modern machines. She noticed that the production process generated a bad smell.

She also mentioned that it was difficult to collect information from the production manager inside the factory. But she tried to collect all the information that he provided to her. She was able to know about the history of the rubber plantation, the level of rubber export and import, the production process, etc. There are four kinds of products: the first one is CSRL, the second is CSR 5, the third CSR10 and the last one is Logran.

After, she went to the  rubber farm. She couldn’t believe when she saw growing rubber trees in line and she imagined it would be comfortable to sleep or eat something under the rubber trees with her friends. Especially, she was able to know how to make a rubber tree nursery. Rubber tree can provide rubber for a long period of time. Collecting rubber on a tree is possible for 6 years.

There are a lot of advantages for planting rubber tree from the government. And people in Cambodia like furniture. The most important is that they can export abroad to Asian countries such as Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore and China. Before it was controlled by the government but now it became private companies like Chub, Kreang, Maimut, Snoul, Peapchank, Beung Thaon and Phum Dong.

"I am very happy for visiting a rubber plantation because I was able to get a lot of knowledge from it. Also, I was able to become clear about this topic, as before I never knew anything related to it. And for suggestion, I would like PSE to continue to have this program in order to make the next generations of students know about this." SreyNa said.

                                          Economic Today Magazine

In marketing class we always do a lot of projects that require going different place, different time and different option of students depend on group and obligation .One of these subjects, we have one subject that came from Economic Today Magazine.

On January, 14th 2012 we went to do a poll that require us to interview people face to face. The purpose of interview wants to know how people think about price of gasoline and satisfaction of them on gasoline. Before we went to interview, we divide 5 group and one group 4 people. We went different place such as: River side, Derm Kor market,Orussey market, Olympic market, and Chbar Om Pov market. We went to interview 12 questions per person and one group we have 40 questionnaires.

For my group went to Orussey market to interview different people. I went with my friends they are Monika, Sophan, and one absent is Dara so we have to divide work to do more. We went to Orussey at 2 pm on Saturday afternoon and work until 4:30 pm than came back PSE. During we interview, some people busy with work they don’t have time to be interviewed. Some people allow us to interview but some I can interview just half of questions because they have work to do immediately. I met different kind of people and work but almost of them are Moto Dup driver because there are a lot of Moto Dup at Orussy Market. In the end we have finished our interview successfully and come back PSE by happily. The benefit of this subject is that we can advertise Charity Party Program in Economic Today Magazine
free because we exchange it by do market survey for them.

I think this project is very good for us to get a lot of experiences and know a lot of people especially, I can know how to communicate with different people. Once more thing, I can adapt myself to solve problem immediately with their anger because most of them don’t like the price of gasoline nowadays. I think, I can improve my work because now we are not yet to finish it. It just the first step.

Entertainment Club

Last year, on Friday-28-Dec-2011, in Pour Un Sourire d’Enfant institute there was one action that related to cleaning day, but after the cleaning day the Director of PSE Institute had a meeting with the entire students in the campus at 4 o’clock and then he gave a feedback and some comments that related to our action.
After that, he talked about his announcement that related to the cleaning day: Before the cleaning day happened one time per month, but starting from now on, it will happen one time every two months. Every other month will be dedicated to the Entertainment Club, every other month to the Cleaning Day.

First, he said that before we created this activity, we needed all students to join together to make this club a success. Why we created it? Because we want all the students to have time to relax from their studies, and enjoy together. One more thing, we don’t want our students to have stress in their brain and to reduce their stress from their brain also. Then, he wanted the students who had objective to join to go to register their name with the teacher in charge before Mon-09-Jan-2012 and at 12:00 PM was the expiry date. And each class should vote for one person that they think would have abilities to be a leader in the class. The chosen leader would be responsible for the whole class. And, after that, the leaders went to join a meeting with the Director of PSE Institute to discourse about the Entertainment Club.

Finally, he wished all students in PSE would have a chance to join in the international day and happy New Year day but should be carefully with traveling, because now the traffic generates more accidents that can kill people in 1 minute if they are not careful with their traveling.
